Freeze
Do you ever have those periods of your life where you just want to freeze time? .. Where things are just really good? .. Where there doesn't appear to be any turmoil going on? .. Where every member of your family seems to be very happy, all at the same time?
This is our life right now. For the better part of two years it seemed like someone was in some kind of crisis mode all the time. It wears on you. You wonder if happiness is really possible.
And then it seems that a light is switched and happiness is there.
And the flipping of that switch is the decision to be happy. It's a choice. When you wake up each day you make a decision to either be happy or not. Sure, life throws you curve balls and unfair things happen. But, ultimately, the choice is yours whether to let it get you down, to destroy you, or to rise above it and just be happy in spite of those circumstances. The hard part is really when those around you are deciding to not be happy, and you can't do anything about it. Even then, it's still your choice.
Nowhere does it say that you are entitled to happiness. The Bible doesn't say it. In fact, the Bible is quick to point out that life will give you troubles! The Declaration of Independence says that we are entitled to "Life, Liberty and the Pursuit of Happiness", not happiness! We're entitled to a pursuit! And it's a choice of each of us individually whether to pursue it.
Well, in any event, the members of my little family have each decided to be happy .. to each love each other despite our annoying character flaws .. to smile .. to enjoy each other and our lives.
Freeze!
