Down in the Dumps to Dumpster Diving

The break we took yesterday was much-needed! I did get work done, but it was all from the comfort of my favorite chair while in my pjs. It made me stop and reflect on how I create my own situations of being overworked. I have a mental agenda of all I want to accomplish and I determine to complete that list at all costs! The typical costs? My exhaustion and Rick's inability to penetrate the vacuum I have created. There's typically no room for him, or for me, in my day.

So I decided yesterday that I definitely need to try to make room for myself in my week so that I have the energy to make room for him. I have decided to change up the way I do schooling during the week to include having the kids do primarily independent work on Thursdays that would allow me to veg out and take a break. Of course I will be here to help with whatever, and I am sure the day will include Brynne and I sitting in the chair reading quite a bit. But otherwise I intend to stay in my pjs, stay in my chair and "work" from it. Doing this will allow me to re-energize. I know that it certainly helped yesterday and today I woke up feeling much more refreshed!

While I was taking Eli to school today, I drove by a house that had just sold. They moved out yesterday and left some "trash" on the curb for Monday's pickup. I saw, what I thought were, some garden trellises. I have been wanting some for a few years, but never seem to get them purchased.

On the way back home I stopped and picked them up. What a find! I got two large trellises (that I am going to put on each side of our master bedroom windows), two smaller ones with adorable birds on top (that I will probably put in my vegetable garden), a shepard's hook (I almost bought one the other day) and another broken hook that I know I can attach something to.

Aren't they great?

I can't wait to see flowers growing up on them!!!

  1. FIrst awesome on the dumpster finds very pretty.
I agree you ( all us homeschool mom teachers) need to pace ourselves, the kids do too. Learning at home is more intense than outside schooling as your tutor (Mom) is on you right next to you seeing how work is done and making those suggestions for improvement and praising. That kind of feedback while awesome is also exhausting for both them and you, the mom teacher. Harmony Art Mom has some great ideas about how to work with olders, doing conferences so as to let them work independently and then come together for a bit of a chat now and again. Here's too chair schooling! I have loved reading your blog this year, you are a new blog find for me. And while I tried to comment I couldn't get it to go through. I hope it does this time.

  2. If you don't take care of yourself, who's to take care of teaching, parenting, cleaning and being a good wife???? Bingo! So...dawn them jammies, grab the biggest mug of coffee you can hold and park your little hiney in the most comfortable chair in the house. Here's to you Mrs. Taulman!
