This was the first Thanksgiving in our new home. We had a nice, simple day which describes our life these days. Eli was up promptly at 8 a.m. to start watching the parade. Rick got up with the kids and I slept in until 10 a.m.! We were off to a good start!
I started cooking dinner at noon. I posted about our menu a few days before Thanksgiving and all of the recipes I used were amazing! I kept them to use every year. And I have declared that I am now in charge of the stuffing. The crock pot stuffing was to. die. for.
Eli decided that we needed to act out The First Thanksgiving. So, Rick made indian headbands and I made pilgrim hats. The scenes (Eli "wrote") were as follows:
Scene 1 ~ The pilgrims come in on the boat, pointing at land, discussing how they will step off the boat and immediately start hunting for a turkey to shoot for dinner.
Scene 2 ~ The pilgrims spot a turkey and start shooting. The indians think that the pilgrims are shooting at them, so they run!
Scene 3 ~ The indians decide to try to make friends with the pilgrims and teach them how to properly plant corn using fish as fertilizer.
Scene 4 ~ The pilgrims invite the indians to Thanksgiving dinner, and they celebrate their first Thanksgiving together.
It was really quite fun and special and sure to be a tradition.
The other funny part about our Thanksgiving was that I had to make a FULL Thanksgiving dinner, turkey and all, for just Rick and I and the two little kids. And the two little kids don't even like turkey! But, they are very much about tradition, so that's why I do it. Plus, it was DARN GOOD and Rick and I thoroughly enjoyed our dinner!
I decided to do the Walmart pre-Black Friday sales event alone while Rick and the kids stayed home. I got more great deals than I intended! ::wink:: But, I was thankful on Friday morning when I was sleeping in and not up at 4 a.m. racing to the Black Friday sales. And, a great majority of my Christmas shopping is done! Hurray!
It really was a nice Thanksgiving. It was sweet and quiet, just how I like it!
What a great Thanksgiving. There's so much to be said for contentment!
