Back to the Simple Things in Life

Last Friday Eli's school had their yearly Jump Rope for Heart campaign. As you can imagine, Eli took this "event" very seriously. At the end of the day he said that he was very frustrated after he was done and that all he got for a prize was a boring pencil! He said, "I really wanted a jump rope."

Little did he know that ON THAT VERY DAY I had stopped at Dollar General and bought him and Brynne each a $1 jump rope. He was SO EXCITED!! (It's Wednesday and he's still talking about how all he got was a boring pencil from school but that his mommy got him just what he wanted.)

Eli and Brynne spent a good deal of time jumping outside since it was a beautiful day!

Eli seriously does body moves that don't look possible.

In just one day, they both had improved their jump roping abilities tremendously. They are jumping several times a day. Brynne's Co-op PE teacher has asked that the kids bring jump ropes to class because she wants to teach them to jump well. It's great exercise!

I taught Brynne the following rhyme (remember it?)

Cinderella dressed in yella
went upstairs to kiss a fella
made a mistake, kissed a snake
how many doctors did it take?
1 ... 2 ... 3 ... 4 ... 5 ..........

Oh, the good 'ol days of swinging for hours on the swing set, jumping rope, playing baseball with neighborhood kids, playing in the sandbox, playing hopscotch, hula hooping.

Thankfully, my kids like to do many of these things. Come on spring!
