Las Posadas

Our church's children program was last night and the kids put on a performance of Las Posadas.

Las Posadas is a Mexican Christmas tradition and means, in English, "the inns" and symbolizes the Biblical journey of Mary and Joseph as they searched for shelter in Bethlehem before the birth of Jesus. It is a current nine-day celebration from December 16th to Christmas Eve (Noche Buena or "Holy Night") and includes a candle-lit procession of children and parents re-enacting Mary and Joseph's journey through Bethlehem.

The program was very simple with the kids holding homemade masks of stable animals or wearing tinsel angel  halos, following Joseph and Mary. It involved singing from the audience.

Then the kids got together to sing some fun Christmas songs and ended with the 2nd and 3rd grade students playing children's hand bells. It was the highlight of the program! It was so good and I was so proud of Eli and Brynne!

After the program we enjoyed cake, cookies and punch, and the kids got to break open a pinata.

My kids are amazing and I felt so nostalgic sitting there in my childhood church watching them on the same stage where I performed as a child.
