I am blessed that I do not need a ton of exercise to maintain a healthy weight. If I eat sensibly and get some moderate exercise regularly, I tend to hover right at my goal weight (or right above it.)
But I gained close to 10 pounds this past winter. I've lost about 5 of it just by changing my eating habits back to what they needed to be. But I haven't added back in that element of regular exercise. It's been hit or miss.
Jamie at See Jamie Blog is a lot like me. She's a petite, caucasian, thin female. She has started working towards getting fit in order to have a healthier lifestyle. Although I would like to lose those last pesky 5 pounds, my quest to get more fit is more one of feeling better. I have osteoarthritis, so exercise is certainly advantageous for me.
Last summer I started running, which is something I never thought I would do. I got to where I could run about 1 1/2 miles without stopping. I looked and felt good! Last week I started getting up a little earlier and walking again. This week I have started running.
The problem with walking/running?? I get so bored! Crusoe goes with me, but I wish he could talk. I walk, basically, the same 2 mile stretch of our neighborhood every single day. It gets monotonous.
Jamie suggested taking along your camera and snapping a photo each day. Here are my photos from last week ...
A robin fledgling that came out of it's nest prematurely and was in our yard being cared for by it's mother. |
A tree on a street at the front of our subdivision that I wish was in our yard. It's beautiful and massive! |
My best walkin' bud. |
One day I came upon my daughter who was driving to school. She said, "Why do you have your camera?" I told her that I get bored walking so I take my camera along to try to find something interesting to take a picture of. She said, "I bet our neighbors think you are so weird."
Probably.
Another way I am trying to beat the boredom, and is a little less "weird", is in using Rick's old iPhone as an iPod. He downloaded me some music and some Joyce Meyer podcasts. I would rather listen to a sermon or devotional when I'm walking, instead of music.
This week I have started running again. Ouch! I am easing into it. I hope to see and feel some differences in my body soon. Listening to the iPod does tend to help me forget how much pain I am in while I am running.
I don't have enough hands to hold a leash, iPod and a camera, so the pictures won't be as prevalent from here on out. ** Man, I wish I would have had my camera this morning! We saw a crane regally walking across the road from one pond to another. Then it slowly flew off. It's wet foot prints went across the street and it looked so cool. Cruose couldn't figure out what it was.
I'm wanting to run a 5k in August.....I have A LONG road ahead of me. I am not a fan of running, but am really wanting to accomplish this feat! I gained almost 20 pounds over the winter (I have no will power and don't exercise a lick) during the winter months. I wish I only had 5 to lose!!!
ReplyDeleteOh, how I wish you were in my neighborhood as I need a walking/running buddy too! Keep up the good work! Maybe sign up for a charity 5k to keep you motivated?
ReplyDeleteGood for you! Those are all great ideas to beat boredom. I can't wait to get back in shape. I lost some weight this pregnancy, but due to restrictions, I lost a lot of muscle tone as well. It's driving me crazy!
