Sister Wives and Large Families

Rick and I have a confession to make ....

We have a new guilty pleasure ....

Sister Wives.

No, he's not taking any and I'm not becoming one, although he has started calling me "#1". Rick can't deal with the one wife he has! He doesn't want to have to take care of any more!

No, I am talking about the TLC show Sister Wives. We are now obsessed with it, and a little bummed that the new season won't be on until fall.

I think I had heard of it before. But Sunday afternoon, when we had nothing to do and were channel surfing, we came across it. And then watched six episodes back-to-back.

It's good. And it brings up some great topics of conversation. I could give my opinions about the whole polygamy topic (and I have some), but I won't. I'll just say that the show changed my opinions about some things. If you are interested, you'll just have to watch it and be your own judge.

It does bring up the whole topic of large families. If you've followed the Duggar family, you've seen how happy and well-adjusted and selfless their kids seem to be. I have noticed that, more than once, in families with lots of children.

Lori at Always Learning, someone I have come to respect for her wisdom, posted about this topic just the other day. She had this quote, "Our children have learned that things do not bring happiness.  They can be selfish at times, but as a rule, with so many people running around the house there is no room for an "it's all about me" attitude.  There is always an opportunity to teach them to share and think of others first." (Barbara Smith, a mother of five children)

Nicki at These are a Few of my 400 Things is giving away a copy of the book, Large Family Logistics by Kim Brenneman. Nicki says in her post, "You don't even have to be a "large" family to gain tons of wisdom from this book. It will give you so much to think about whether you have 2 kids, 10 kids, or your first baby is on the way."

I know I'm always looking for helpful tips to run my home more efficiently.

Just a 'little food for thought' on this hot Wednesday.

Maybe you have something you want to say about this? Go ahead! I'd love to hear it!

  1. I don't know how I feel about that show yet. I've only seen a few episodes, but the guy creeps me out. To each his own, I guess.

  3. I enjoy sister wives too. It changed my mind about the whole deal although it wouldn't be for me. My husband and I joke around about it too! I tell him I'd have someone else around to do the cooking and cleaning.
