Getting Fit ~ Week 5
Well, I had this to contend with this past week. On Sunday night I walked through the kitchen and turned around to shut off the light. A tall, very heavy, antique drafting table chair that is usually sitting flush to the wall, was turned and I kicked the base of it with my right baby toe. It was one of those moments where it didn't hurt at first because it was numb, but then excruciating pain began to radiate up the side of my foot and up my calf. I was writhing in pain on the bed. Rick went and got me an ice pack for it. I slept with it stuffed down a sock. I could move it but wondered if I fractured something.
On Monday morning my toe looked like a purple grape and, at first, I couldn't put any pressure on my foot. But within literally minutes I had it in my running shoes and was out the door. I was only planning on going on a short walk, but realized I could go further, so I walked/ran my regular 1.8 mile route (the big block). By the time I got home, though, I had to get out of those shoes.
Here's what I did the rest of the week ...
Tuesday ~ My toe actually hurt worse, but the swelling and bruising was down. I did a one-mile walk/run and then came home and exercised to an episode of Total Body Sculpt with Gilad.
Wednesday ~ I did the big block walk/run route.
Thursday ~ I took Crusoe on a short block walk because Brynne and I had to get moving early to go pick blueberries with our Homeschool Co-op. We picked, in the heat, for two full hours and picked 6 pounds of blueberries. That was a workout!
Friday ~ My pesky friend, who comes visiting monthly, showed up. I just felt too yucky, so I stayed home.
This was a pretty good week for me, considering my toe injury. Although my toe is much better, I still feel some pain in the pad of my foot beneath that toe. I imagine I have a small fracture, but I'll just keep battling through it.
I'm ready for a new and productive week!
