I post this morning with an extremely heavy heart. At the beginning of this week, my mom found my 88 year old grandma, Alice, who still lives alone, still in her bed at 4:00 p.m., disoriented and obviously very sick. She called 911 and had her taken to the hospital by ambulance.
After a couple of difficult days it has been determined that my grandma had a severe urinary trach infection and dangerously high calcium levels. She has been on antibiotics and fluids for a couple of days and is not doing any better. In fact, she may be worse. It was also determined that she has a golf ball sized mass on her lung that they suspect is cancerous. We have been told that her body would not be able to withstand any cancer treatments, so they are not even going to biopsy it.
On Friday they are releasing her from the hospital to a nursing home.
This has been what my grandma has never wanted to happen.
Now, there is a lot to my grandma's story, and some, if not a lot, of her health issues could have been avoided with different choices by herself. She has, unfortunately, contributed greatly to the decline of her health.
But nobody wants to send their grandma, or anyone else for that matter, to spend their last days in a place like she is going. It's fine, I guess. But, have you ever visited a nursing home? It's not the most uplifting place in the world, especially if they have sent you there as your death sentence.
When I was little, my brother, sister and I spent the night every Saturday night at my grandma's. She taught us to play double solitaire. We watched The Love Boat and Fantasy Island. Before we went to bed we would wind the antique clock on her t.v. and then take turns sleeping with her. (I have that clock now.)
She often had trouble sleeping and would turn on her bed lamp and read in the middle of the night. She would be up before light on Sunday morning preparing her Sunday School lesson for the adult class she taught. She would take us home so we could get ready for church and then come and pick us up and take us to Sunday School. My mom would meet us for church service later.
We ate many meals at my grandma's eating the best fried chicken and spiced apples in the world! She would never sit at the table with us. She ate at the counter and served us.
My favorite holiday was always Christmas Eve. It was real! It was amazing!
When I was little my grandma sewed many of my clothes.
There are things in her house that have been there since I was a little girl ... the portrait of my aunt, mom and uncle in her bedroom. The mirrored tray on her dresser. The antique brush, mirror and comb. The red velvet bench. The Armstrong chair. Many things she has already given me through the years ... the clock, the tea set from when she was a little girl, her kitchen roosters.
She was always a strong woman, which makes her current health situation so sad. She worked hard and did exciting things as a young woman. And somewhere along the way, the past 10 years or so, she decided to stop living. I've lived several hours away from her for about that same period of time. I have thought of her often and not followed the prompting to call her or write to her. I regret that now because there are so many things I want to know about her that I will never know.
I'm sorry, grandma, that your last days will end like this. I know it's not what you wanted. I wish that 10 years ago, or even 5, I would have insisted that you come live with us to keep your daily health up and to keep your mind stimulated. I wish that I would have been as stubborn as you and made that happen despite all of the difficulty it would have caused. Who knows, maybe me and my family would have been blessed more than you.
Guilt is an ugly thing. It makes you believe things that probably never would have been. It makes you see things that once were, but ignore things that are. It makes you forget there were ever bad times and believe that only good existed.
Realistically I know there was nothing anyone in my family could have done over the past 10 years to make things different for my grandma. But Guilt likes to tell me differently.
Kyndal once asked me if I was going to be sad when my grandma died. I told her that I would, but that, to me, my grandma had died many years ago and that made me sad.
I have (hopefully) learned something very important, however. I am quite a bit like my grandma in many ways. I am independent, stubborn, confident to the point of being a know-it-all, enjoy my solitude and could sit in my house for days, even weeks, without leaving it. But I don't want to be a lonely old lady who slowly dies in a nursing home because I have shut out the world and not let people take care of me when they could have made a difference.
I love you, grandma, for what you taught me in my life. Rest easy.

What to do with all the produce
I don't can any of the produce from my garden. My garden really isn't big enough to store up harvest for the winter months. But, some veggies get too plentiful to keep up with sometimes. My zucchini and squash are plentiful, to the say the least. So are my jalapenos!
I mentioned in my post yesterday that I had made Jalapeno Poppers. Here is a picture of them. My goodness they were delicious!
With shredded zucchini I made some Oatmeal Raisin Zucchini Cookies yesterday. They were fabulous and won't be lasting long!
Tonight I am planning on making Squashamole (like guacamole .. no, I won't be squashing a mole). You use grilled zucchini, squash and onions and mix them together like guacamole with some other ingredients. If they turn out good, I'll share the recipe.
I will also be taking these bad boys to my dad this weekend (the zucchini, not the kids, although the kids are going to see my dad this weekend, but they aren't bad ... anyway), along with some jalapenos.
Did you notice that cute carrot? They still aren't quite ready, but Brynne and I saw some orange poking out of the ground and we were too impatient not to pull one out and see how they were doing. (And, yeah, yesterday was p.j. day.)
Yummy, fun times!

Nicole's Daybook
Outside my window... Overcast and a bit breezy. Still humid though!
I am thinking... about how life seems to be "in line", finally, after some tough times of searching, turmoil and frustration.
I am thankful ... that many hard years of patience with Rick's job situation seems to have paid off. An exciting future is ahead!
I am wearing... PGA Championship t-shirt, blue running shorts, tennis shoes.
I am planning... to get some planning done today.
I am creating... a clean and organized house this week so I can feel good about leaving for the weekend and not coming home to a mess I left.
I am going... to work on school stuff for next year all day today, after I clean the bathrooms.
I am reading... Blue Like Play Dough by Tricia Goyer, The Book Whisperer by Donalyn Miller, Seasons of a Mother's Heart by Sally Clarkson (homeschool play group moms book study), and More Faith in My Day by Emilie Barnes (daily devotional).
I am hoping... that this just the beginning of an incredible upswing!
From the learning rooms... Reading, reading, reading! We had a big accomplishment yesterday: Eli not only finished the Summer Reading Program (so far reading 21 books), but he wanted to read a full 64-page book yesterday "because it is so funny" and did exactly that! Unless you know him, it's difficult to express what a big deal that is!! Brynne has now read 24 books. Her goal is 60. She has moved on to longer books, though, so she's working really hard! Bouncing off our trip to the Blue Bell ice cream factory this past Saturday, we are doing ice cream lessons this week. We are going to read a book today about what we saw at the factory. We are going to make ice cream in a baggie and then do a science experiment notebooking page about the change of liquid to solid. And we are doing a couple of different math lessons based on our ice cream activities.
Noticing that ... my foot has hurt worse the past couple of days and I'm pretty convinced I have, at least, a hairline fracture in it.
From the kitchen... I have two important words to say: Jalapeno Poppers! Oh my! I cut 10 jalapenos (from my garden) in half and scooped out the seeds and then grilled them on the top rack for a few minutes. I filled one half with cream cheese, covered it with the other half and wrapped 1/2 piece of turkey bacon around it. I baked them at 350 degrees for 30 minutes. Yummmmmmmm!!!!! But they were sooooooooo hotttttttttttt!!!!!
Here is what we are having for dinner this week (and things are still seeming to get switched around based on mood)...
Tuesday ~ Creamy tomato chicken and linguine
Wednesday~ FFY and Wine Wednesday
Thursday ~ Grilled burritos
Friday ~ Bacon, eggs and toast
Saturday - Tuesday ~ Rick's on his own while the kids and I go to Missouri to visit my parents.
Around the house... are happy and content people.
One of my favorite things... Spending a day together with my whole family. It doesn't happen near often enough and it's so enjoyable when it does.
I am hoping... that this just the beginning of an incredible upswing!

A few plans for the rest of the week... We really aren't doing anything this week. Tomorrow we are going to our Co-op play group, and while we are in town we'll take our recycling and stop by the library. Otherwise we are staying home, trying to stay cool. Then on Saturday we are driving to my parents' in Missouri for a 4th of July visit.
From my picture journal.
Dawson's requested snack for this week. Eli asked me when I was going to get him a bucket of cheese balls.

Getting Fit ~ Week 5
Well, I had this to contend with this past week. On Sunday night I walked through the kitchen and turned around to shut off the light. A tall, very heavy, antique drafting table chair that is usually sitting flush to the wall, was turned and I kicked the base of it with my right baby toe. It was one of those moments where it didn't hurt at first because it was numb, but then excruciating pain began to radiate up the side of my foot and up my calf. I was writhing in pain on the bed. Rick went and got me an ice pack for it. I slept with it stuffed down a sock. I could move it but wondered if I fractured something.
On Monday morning my toe looked like a purple grape and, at first, I couldn't put any pressure on my foot. But within literally minutes I had it in my running shoes and was out the door. I was only planning on going on a short walk, but realized I could go further, so I walked/ran my regular 1.8 mile route (the big block). By the time I got home, though, I had to get out of those shoes.
Here's what I did the rest of the week ...
Tuesday ~ My toe actually hurt worse, but the swelling and bruising was down. I did a one-mile walk/run and then came home and exercised to an episode of Total Body Sculpt with Gilad.
Wednesday ~ I did the big block walk/run route.
Thursday ~ I took Crusoe on a short block walk because Brynne and I had to get moving early to go pick blueberries with our Homeschool Co-op. We picked, in the heat, for two full hours and picked 6 pounds of blueberries. That was a workout!
Friday ~ My pesky friend, who comes visiting monthly, showed up. I just felt too yucky, so I stayed home.
This was a pretty good week for me, considering my toe injury. Although my toe is much better, I still feel some pain in the pad of my foot beneath that toe. I imagine I have a small fracture, but I'll just keep battling through it.
I'm ready for a new and productive week!

I Scream, You Scream, We All Scream ....
For Ice Cream!
OUR WHOLE FAMILY actually spent some time together yesterday! I don't remember the last time we did that! We went to the Blue Bell Creameries Taste of Summer Open House.
It was super hot, but all-you-can-eat ice cream made it so much more bearable!
The kids jumped in the jupiter jumps, and we ate ice cream. Then we ate ice cream and went on the factory tour. Then we had some ice cream. Then the boys went and looked at the cars in the auto show and the girls went to the craft tent. Then we got some more ice cream. Then the boys showed up to work on sun visors. Then Eli and Brynne "milked" cows and we had some more ice cream. Then we went home.
I was just happy to spend the day with my family.

The Book Whisperer Linky Party
1. What is your favorite book (or series) from childhood? My favorite book was A Room for Cathy by Catherine Woolley. I just recently purchased a vintage paperback copy of it and it now sits on my nightstand.
2. What is your favorite book (or series) now? Definitely The Ladybug Farm series by Donna Ball. I can't wait for her to write the fourth book in the series so I can catch up with my old friends!
3. What is your opinion of e-readers? Although I can certainly understand the ease and convenience of them, I really don't think I will ever get one. I love the feel and smell of a book! I love to turn the pages! I love bookmarks! I love to see books stacked in my library basket or on my nightstand.
4. Finish this sentence: "On Sundays I like to ..." go to church, come home and do all of my laundry and clean my house and then work on school stuff.
5. Describe yourself in five words. Orderly, Scheduled, Homebody, Teacher, Strong
6. Hardcover or paperback? Why? Hardcover, but I don't really know why. I think I feel like I am getting "the real deal" with a hardback and a "secondhand" with a paperback, although I love secondhand things. I guess I am a book-snob.
7. Coffee or tea. Coffee is definitely my first love! Although in the winter I love my evening cup of hot green tea, too.
If you want to play along, you can write your post and link up at Thinking of Teaching. They are starting a book study of The Book Whisperer by Donalyn Miller.

How to Survive a Long Car Trip with Kids
Two summers ago we took our kids on a 9 state, 60 hour trip to Yellowstone. The kids were awesome! What tactics do I use to make a long car trip bearable?
Many, many years ago I bought a book called Sanity in the Summertime
by Linda Dillow and Claudia Arp. It is an excellent book! It has a chapter about surviving vacations, with a section on car trips. It is a very outdated book, but the concepts are still usable. Here are some tips, both from the book and from experience, and a few new things that I have recently come upon ...

Scratch ~n~ Sniff Post
Oh, how I wish you could scratch and sniff that photo, so you could enjoy the absolutely amazing fragrance of these blueberries Brynne and I picked this morning! You know the stickers that smell like "blueberries" or the Blueberry Muffin doll from the Strawberry Shortcake line? Blueberries really do smell like that! Or, at least, fresh ones do. I've never actually smelled that exact smell until today.
We went to a cool place called Thunderbird Berry Farm in Broken Arrow, Oklahoma, and picked blueberries from 9:15 a.m. to 11:15 a.m. We walked away with right at 6 pounds of fresh, sweet, juicy, plump blueberries!
I was planning to do the "Give 2/3 to the Farm to Sell and Get 1/3 for Yourself for Free" deal, but after I worked so hard on them, and tasted how sweet they were (geez, fresh blueberries versus store-bought is no comparison!), I decided to just pony up the dough and buy them all!
I came home and divided them into ziplock baggies to freeze for later, reserving about 2 pints to use now. I ended up with 8 baggies.
Brynne was a real trooper! Picking blueberries is hard work! But she worked right alongside me for two full hours. The other families in our group gave up after a short time. We looked up at one point and saw that everybody was gone. But we were on a mission (and we had to drive a good 30 minutes to get there and wanted our trip to be worth it!) She even picked her own pound to keep in a bowl to eat herself. She deserves every blueberry!
This is definitely something I will do every year from now on.

Time Alone
We all need time alone. If we are always influxed with noise and activity we do not have time to ponder the things we need to ponder. And, if you are like me, if you don't get enough time alone, you fizzle out and become agitated.
Even my husband needs time alone. He get his time by putting in his ear buds and heading to the garage or driveway to hit golf balls ... alone.
As wives and moms, finding time alone can be a challenge. Or is it?
While socializing with some new friends a couple of weeks ago, the topic of me homeschooling came up. (First of all, I always love how Rick proudly tells others that I am a homeschooling mom.) While we were discussing it, one of the women said, "You never get time alone!" At first I said, "No, I don't." But I have thought about that conversation several times since then as I was actually spending time alone. What I have considered is that time alone does not, typically, come by accident. It's something I do intentionally.
I read about moms who are so "frazzled" and "can't" find the time. We can all find the time, if it's important enough to us.
How do I do it? (And before I start this, let me say that sometimes I fall off this wagon, that I know works for me, and I regret it every time! Thus, the need for intentionality!!!)
1. I get up in the morning before everyone else. When my alarm goes off in the morning, I want to do like any other sane person: I want to hit my snooze, or turn it off completely and go back to sleep especially when there is no real reason to get up. But if I do that, my alone time is gone. I have certain things I like to do without "help". I want to be able to drink some coffee, have my quiet time with God and then read blogs and do my own posts.
2. I exercise. I do this in the morning before anyone gets up or it doesn't get done! If I tell myself that "I'll do it later," I never do it later. Something or someone takes it's place EVERY TIME! I grab my iPod (with Joyce Meyer podcasts), my sunglasses and my dog and we head out. In the winter I will need to come up with some kind of plan. This winter I fell off the exercise wagon and, let's just say, I am suffering for it this summer.
3. I have hobbies. And these hobbies are at home. I garden. Nothing too huge or complicated. But, it gives me something to nurture and a routine that gets me outside in the mornings. I let the dogs out, and I water and deweed and it's during that time that I get lots of thinking done. It is also a time that I naturally count my blessings. I am also a bird nut. I could just sit and watch the birds on my back porch all day!
4. I have created a place for me that provides me with peace and joy. I love my back patio. I have spent years creating it to be the place I want it to be. I have a porch swing. I have a small fire pit. I have a patio set with comforable seats and a small table. I have a larger table where we can eat, if we choose. I have a grill. I have a hummingbird feeder. I have lots of plants and flowers. I have a small greenhouse. I have a potting table. And, it's all mine. It is where I go when I want to be alone and take in the things that provide me with peace.
5. I have taught my children to be friends with each other. THIS IS A BIG ONE! My kids don't need me to entertain them all day. They are not demanding of me and my time. Our time together is enjoyable. They play with each other ... sometimes for hours! They help each other. They encourage each other. And they are not allowed to fight. I don't have to break away from my alone time to break up fights every three minutes because they have never been allowed to fight. You, too, can teach your children not to fight and how to settle disputes between them. It will take some time. But you can do it. People ask me all the time, "How come your kids are so well-behaved?" My answer is, "We don't allow them to misbehave."
6. I count every moment that I am alone as "alone time". If I am doing laundry without someone else, it is alone time. If I am cooking dinner without help, it is alone time. If I am vacuuming without shutting it off every two seconds to answer a question, it is alone time. Just because you are doing something productive does not mean you are not getting alone time! Embrace the mundane! It's what keeps me sane.
I encourage you to carve out time for yourself. Your husband and children will thank you. And, you will likely almost find yourself giddy at how much you are enjoying your life.

Nicole's Daybook
Outside my window... Sunny and windy. It was almost chilly this morning after an overnight storm, but it must still be humid because I was a sweaty mess after a short run.
I am thinking... of all the details I need to start working on for Brynne's birthday party coming up in August.
I am thankful ... for the privilege to do what I want to do every day, and a husband who works hard so I can do it.
I am wearing... Nike t-shirt and running shorts.
I am planning... U.S. History curriculum galore! Dawson is probably going to want to shoot me in the head next year with all I have in store for him. But I'm hoping that the teacher's excitement will just naturally rub off on the student.
I am creating... A China unit study for Eli and Brynne (they want to learn about China because they love The Karate Kid with Jaden Smith). Dawson and Brynne's U.S. History binders for fall (you will see this listed here every single week this summer because it's going to take me that long to get it done). I'm also making a picture recipe for "Blueberry Biscuit Yummies" so that Eli and Brynne can cook by themselves after we pick blueberries on Thursday. (Still working on all of these things this week.)
I am going... to finish my Daybook and then go exercise to an episode of Total Body Sculpt with Gilad.
I am reading... Barefoot by Elin Hilderbrand (not really enjoying it that much, but want to get it finished so I can move on), Seasons of a Mother's Heart by Sally Clarkson (homeschool play group moms book study), What Your Second Grader Needs to Know by The Core Knowledge Foundation, and More Faith in My Day by Emilie Barnes (daily devotional).
I am hoping... that Kyndal is always safe and cautious and making good decisions when running around with her friends. This is the hard part of parenting, folks. Breaking up squabbles is nothing compared to hoping all you have taught your child won't be thrown out the window when they have a little bit of independence and freedom.
From the learning rooms... We are still reading. Brynne is one book away from reading the 20 required to get her prizes from the library. Eli is taking a bit longer because he is really working hard on a 60 page book. He'll be there soon, though. Today we are going to do a First Day of Summer notebooking page.
Noticing that ... that mama bird's nest is complete and she is contentedly sitting in it now. Babies will be here soon!
From the kitchen... We've had some incredibly delicious and fresh meals using as much harvest from my garden as possible. I am finding a way to infuse zucchini into lots of our meals. I even added it to our Sweet and Sour Meatballs last night. Yum!
Here is what I have on the menu this week ...
Tuesday ~ Chicken fettucine and french bread, salad
Wednesday~ FFY and Wine Wednesday
Thursday ~ Grilled burritos
Friday ~ Beef and broccoli over rice
Saturday ~ Eggs, bacon and toast
Sunday ~ Grilled hot dogs and brats
Monday ~ Pork Quesadillas and avocado
Around the house... The house is looking great! Flowers have bloomed and spread to their full capacity, veggies are flourishing, ornamental gardens are clean-lined and pretty.
One of my favorite things... Mondays. I am in the minority, I know.

A few plans for the rest of the week... Water park this afternoon. Blueberry picking on Thursday (going to try again). Co-op Gymnastics on Friday. Possibly the Blue Bell ice cream factory on Saturday. And that's it.

Getting Fit ~ Week 4 {and "The List"}
I managed to exercise every day this week! I was so happy with that!
Monday ~ Only walked/ran a mile because my older kids were gone and I forgot that if I went further the little kids would be home alone because Rick would have to leave for work.
Tuesday ~ Walked/ran 1 mile and then came home and did Body Sculpt with Gilad. {Ouch!}
Wednesday ~ Walked/ran 2 miles.
Thursday ~ Walked 2 miles with my husband in the evening. (I was going to get up that morning and walk/run 1 mile and then come home and then go pick blueberries later in the morning, but it was pouring when I got up.)
Friday ~ Walked/ran 2 miles.
** When I say "walk/run", it's because I do different things everyday. Sometimes I walk to one stop sign then run to the next and alternate the whole route. Sometimes I walk the first 1/4 mile or so, run a 1/2 mile, walk a 1/4 mile, run a 1/2 mile, etc. Sometimes I walk a bit and then run until I am dying, try to run a little further, and then walk the last stretch to cool down. I am not a great runner, but I like to try to get my heart rate up.
This week I have also been trying to eat (during the day, at least) exclusively off "The List". It's a list of 12 foods that The Abs Diet recommends, in an effort to reduce fat to the stomach. The list contains many foods I already eat anyway, and they are super healthy foods. So, during the day when I am hungry I just look at the list and choose something to eat. And I am eating several small things instead of a couple of huge meals. I am still eating regular dinner at night, however.
Here's "The List":
1. Almonds (with skins)
2. Beans (not refried)
3. Spinach or other green veggies
4. Fat free or low fat dairy
5. Eggs
6. Turkey (not packaged turkey meat)
7. Peanut butter
8. Instant oatmeal
9. Olive oil
10. Whole grains
11. Whey protein powder (in smoothies)
12. Berries

"Thank You" Daddy (insert inside joke hysterical laugh here)
Rick's Father's Day consisted of ... donuts at "The Donut Tree" squeezed into one tiny booth with both Eli and Brynne.
... church together as a family.
... some U.S. Open and a favorite meal of crock-pot bbq chicken sandwiches with fresh jalapenos from the garden and his favorite cantaloupe.
... and, unfortunately, some yard work.
Eli and Brynne each picked him out a new colorful golf shirt. We got him some new golf shorts and a shag bag, to pick up his golf balls when he chips them into our yard. He also got a little "gag gift" of a punching bag to use in the garage.
So from this mother to you, Thank you!

Gotta Do a Garden Update ~ Harvest!
First of all, my garden is just beautiful! I wish it looked like this all year long!
The really cool part is, though, that I actually have harvest from it! And, some unexpected!
I planted corn this year, just for fun. I just wanted to try something new. And, I thought I'd just use the stalks to decorate in the fall. But I have two actual ears of corn growing! They are so cute!
I have 8 green peppers on my four plants, so far, with some tiny babies just starting, as well.
I have already used some jalapenos, and given some away, and have about 20 on my plants right now. I'm definitely going to can some.
I checked a carrot and they are coming along nicely. Someday maybe they'll actually be big enough to pull out and eat.
I have pulled off about 6 large zucchini so far (and eaten them ... yum!) And have many, many others growing.
I've also pulled off one yellow squash and have lots of babies.
I will definitely not plant as many lettuce plants next year, because I couldn't possibly eat all of that lettuce if I tried. My spinach has been steady and good.
My tomatoes, on the other hand haven't done hardly anything! I've been very disappointed! I've got about 8 small tomatoes on my bush, and none on any of my vines. My cucumbers are very slow growing and I don't expect to get anything out of them. And my broccoli (another experiment) grew great until they were about 2" tall and haven't grown another millimeter since. I won't be doing broccoli next year. I'll probably give cucumbers another try, just plant them in a different spot. Maybe I am growing them with some incompatible veggies/fruits.
I have pulled some blueberries off my bush I planted this year, and they have been so sweet! (I just ate 20 of them on my bowl of bran cereal this morning!) I am definitely going to plant two more blueberry bushes next year (bringing my total to 4) and more strawberries. I think I'll move my tomatoes out to where my lettuce and spinach are and move my lettuce and spinach over where my tomatoes are. And I'm going to plant lots of pumpkins on our back hill. (Why hadn't I though of that before? We have the perfect spot for them!) That will round out my garden next year.

Celebrating Our Way
Yesterday Rick and I celebrated our 10 year anniversary. Celebrating, for us, is typically a calm, family event.
We did go to lunch together, at a Mexican restaurant, which was nice. It's funny how we always tend to talk about where we have been and where we are going as a married couple and family. Yesterday was no exception.
And then we were back to the ordinary-ness of our day. Rick went back to work. I went home and worked on U.S. History lesson plans for next year.
When he got home, he and I grabbed a drink and our dinner (crock pot chicken and dumplings) and enjoyed it together, alone, on our back patio. We had a reprieve from the heat yesterday, so there was a nice post-storm breeze.
After dinner we took Crusoe for a walk. Again, alone without kids.
We spent more time alone together yesterday than we have in a long time!
And then we ended the evening in true Taulman fashion: me sitting on the couch watching So You Think You Can Dance and blogging, and Rick working on his lawn mower.
Glamorous, glamorous, glamorous. We are all about the Glam! (We are planning to go for an overnight trip next month back to the city where we met to do a little "walk down memory lane".)
But it was a celebration, none-the-less. A celebration of 10 hard-fought years. And a look ahead to more and more.
(And, I had to laugh at Brynne. I was telling her that daddy and I were going to lunch alone yesterday and asked if she she remembered why. She said, "Yeah, because of that wedding." Yeah, that wedding.)

From this Moment ~ June 16, 2001
I do swear that I'll always be there.
I'd give anything and everything and I will always care.
Through weakness and strength, happiness and sorrow, for better for worse,
I will love you with every beat of my heart.
From this moment life has begun
From this moment you are the one
Right beside you is where I belong
From this moment on
From this moment I have been blessed
I live only for your happiness
And for your love I'd give my last breath
From this moment on
I give my hand to you with all my heart
Can't wait to live my life with you, can't wait to start
You and I will never be apart
My dreams came true because of you
From this moment as long as I live
I will love you, I promise you this
There is nothing I wouldn't give
From this moment on
You're the reason I believe in love
And you're the answer to my prayers from up above
All we need is just the two of us
My dreams came true because of you
From this moment as long as I live
I will love you, I promise you this
There is nothing I wouldn't give
From this moment
I will love you as long as I live
From this moment on
Happy 10th Anniversary, Rick!
I love you.

Happy Birthday, Rick!
What do you get the man who has it all? ... a beautiful and fit wife, a warm and welcoming home, smart and gorgeous children and the perfect pets. I don't know. If you find him, ask him and let me know.
For my man, he got the following:
His favorite dinner of jalapeno chicken enchiladas (with jalapenos from my garden), cantelope, brownies and sweet tea.
A homemade card from Brynne.
A belt "from" Brynne.
An OSU coffee cup filled with Hershey kisses "from" Eli.
An iTunes gift card "from" Dawson and a Frogg Togg Chilly pad "from" Kyndal.
And, what every man wants from his wife ......
a rubbed oil bronze corner tiered shower caddy.
Yes, we lead a charmed life.
I think he was happy. We are a simple group around here. Just fix us our favorite meal and get us a few practical gifts and we feel like royalty. And if you know my husband at all, it won't surprise you that he insisted on cleaning up the kitchen after dinner and he cleaned out his closet before he went to bed. He was in his happy place.
Happy Birthday, Babe! We love you so much!
